Black as a Norwegian winter's night and resinous as a walk through the forest. This Cascadian Dark Ale is brewed by brewmaster Abram Goldman-Armstrong, who first put the style on the map. The citrusy and piney hop aroma and flavour is balanced with a slight sweetness from the caramel malt. More than a Black IPA, CDAs celebrate the combination of hop and roast flavours.

33cl can from Vinmonopolet, Larvik. Pours black with a huge, beige head. Toasty and hoppy with licorice, pine, coffee, citrus and dark, dried fruits. Medium to moderate sweet with medium flavour intensity and bitterness. Tasty and refreshing with nice mixture of dark and hoppy flavours. Nice one!

Can. A light gusher producing a huge, foamy dark beige head. Some lacing. The aroma is lightly sourish, milky, lemony and roasted malts sourish, with burnt notes and roasted malts, and quite a lot of piney hops. It's full bodied and surprisingly decently carbonated, quite dry, with a nice bitterness. Roasted malts, licorice, some coffee and sourness, pine cones and a hint of burnt malts and grapefruit. Lasting dry, roasted, burnt finish where some sweetness show up. Weird, but nice. 241010

330 ml can, as Fjordfolk Mørkeredd Black IPA (Cascadian Dark Ale), from Vinmonopolet Madla. ABV is 6.5%, IBU 65. Moderately gushing can. Nearly black colour, large beige head. Aroma of sourish mash, moderate roast malts. Fairly dry flavour of roast malts, bitter coffee, dark bitter chocolate, distinct bittering hops. A pretty rough beer.

Nice tasty bipa. Complete black body and a fine tan head. Ok lacing. Fine intensity in the aroma. Balanced sweetness and a fine bitterness. Also a fine carbonation level. Easy to drink. Dark malt, coffee, chocolate, roast, grapefruit hoppy and pine in the flavor. [Can from Vinmonopolet Oslo S in Oslo, Norway]
