Black as a Norwegian winter's night and resinous as a walk through the forest. This Cascadian Dark Ale is brewed by brewmaster Abram Goldman-Armstrong, who first put the style on the map. The citrusy and piney hop aroma and flavour is balanced with a slight sweetness from the caramel malt. More than a Black IPA, CDAs celebrate the combination of hop and roast flavours.

Can @ home. Dark brown, almost black body under a big, frothy beige head. Aroma has dark malt, strong pine, some citric fruit and hint of chocolate. Taste is medium sweet, mild roasted dark malt, distinct pine, some citric fruit, coffee, chocolate and nice bitterness. Fine balanced taste, body and nice aftertaste. Refreshing, tasting and well made black IPA.

330ml can, #353, bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Remaining fawn-coloured head, back body with a deep brownish glint, clingy lacing. Good looking! Inviting aromas of roasted malts with piney notes. Well blended taste of pine needles, dark malts, and liquorice. Roasted bitter finish. Fine depth. Well crafted. Like it. (Tromsø, 21.10.2023).
