To sail ice-cold seas, Willem Barentsz first scoured the globe in search of necessary spices for his beers. Cutting down cinnamon trees in Ceylon released delicious warm aromas and in South America descendants of the Incas pointed out the sweet taste of Passion Flower to him. These ingredients proved indispensable to make the Barentsz Winter Beer with which he braved every storm in his quest for Svalbard.
Robuuste quadrupel met een diepe, mahoniebruine kleur, stevige body en een weelderige schuimkraag. Passiebloem en Ceylon Kaneel zorgen in elke slok voor subtiele hints van gedroogd fruit, kruiden en karamelachtige tonen.

Fles 33cl thuis. Fruitig, klein zuurtje, dried fruits, rozijn, winterkruiden, caramel, passiebloem, licht kaneel, suikers, pruim. (18-4-2025).

A clear reddish brown beer with a beige head. Aroma of strong caramelized malt, nuts, spices. Taste of caramelized malt, red fruits, spices. High carbonation.

Wenig würziger, dezent säuerlicher Beginn. Cremig, etwas Zimt, insgesamt aber eher flach und unspektakulär. Trinkbar. 8/6/6/5/9/5

Amberish tinted head over (cold) hazed brown beer. Straw, wood, plywood, melanoidins, chewing gum, some spices - seem to get some cinnamon, if very restrained. Dry chocolate, but getting creamier in time. Wood again, and spices, undefined. Well-bodied, very good carbonation, quite slick to oily. Not bad, certainly, spices held in check, but nothing new, really.

Fles gekregen van Roelzie, thuis geprobeerd. Het is een licht troebel amberkleurig bier met een volle beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van rozijnen en kaneel. De smaak is vol kruidig en kaneel achtig.

33cl bottle from Albert Heijn supermarket in Maasmechelen.
F: big, tan, good retention.
C: coppery to brown, hazy.
A: malty, banana, apples, roasted tones, cocoa, bit herbal, coffee.
T: full malty base, apples, banana, mellow fruity, bit berries, roasted tones, herbal, coffee, medium carbonation, nice balanced bitterness, good one, enjoyed.
