On tap at Churchkey pours a mostly clear, ruby amber with some thin, creamy white head. Nose has wet malts, some baked apple, brown sugar, a bit earthy. Flavor follows, nothing jumps, soggy brown bread, some caramel, baked apple, pear too., Watery finish. More of an amber ale than a scotch.

This was poured into an English pint glass.
The appearance was a slightly dark amber to ruddy brown color with a one and a half finger white foamy rocky head that dissipated within less than a minute. Light speckled and messy lacing roamed about the glass.
The smell started off with a slight baked apple leading into a light caramel malt and then a slightly roasty nuttiness rolling about.
The taste was matly sweet carrying the light apple into the caramel and having a slight roastiness about it. Rolling nuttiness combined with the caramel and apple leads into the aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the palate with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation seems fairly refined but still good for a Scottish ale and for me as it leads to a slight creamy texture.
Overall, as a Scottish ale, I dig it. Its good and has some good aspects going on and this would be great with its respected food.

[2/20/15] Draught at Ballast Point Old Grove in San Diego. Clear reddish amber. Aroma of malt, caramel, a bit of butterscotch. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, a bit of butter and toast. Medium-bodied.

Draft pour at Indigo. Pours a dark reddish color with a thin bubbly head. Super sweet malt dominant flavor. Sweet candy caramel flavor with a hint of smoke. Slight roasted finish mixed with a candy sweetness that sticks around for a bit. Overall, not bad at all.

Bomber from Imbibe Wine; labeled 5.8% ABV. Nose is caramel and sweet with a hint of bubblegum. Lightly hazy rusty red with a small, lightly lacing beige head. Flavor is lightly sweet and malty caramel.

Pours a dark, reddish-brown with minimal head. Aroma of malt and barley. Flavor is very muted for a Scottish ale--tastes more like a brown or nut brown ale. Some roasted malt, some sweetness. It’s easy to drink, but not especially memorable.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/24/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toast, brown bread, light roast, raisin, plum, apple, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, yeast ester, and light hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light roast, raisin, plum, apple, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light roast, raisin, plum, apple, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/bready malt, yeast ester, and light hop flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good Scottish ale style. Good balance and robustness of dark/bready malt, yeast ester, and light hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

On tap at Crafted. Aroma is peaty, caramel, toast. Pours slightly hazy brown with a medium beige head. Taste is sweet and grainy, caramelly. Creamy mouthfeel, medium body. Not bad, but have had better.

Sampled at the 2014 Untapped festival in Fort Worth. Pours a clear deep amber with a light yellowish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma mainly has toffee and sweet grains with a bit grass. Flavor has more sweet grains and grass with toffee and caramel backing.
