One of Scotland’s favourites thanks to its distinctive and full-bodied flavour. Pale malt gives satisfying ‘Horlicks’ maltiness and black malt adds balance to the sweetness. Challenger provides the bitterness and base note herbal hop character with Goldings adding a hint of orange peel.

Cask at The Scottish Real Ale Festival 2014. Pours clear brown, no head. Malty sweet aromas, not as raisiny as I was expecting, light sulphur note too. Taste is sweet, finishes clean enough. OK.

Tolles Bitter. malzig, leicht röstig. Für 3,9% recht tief und aromatisch. Leicht bitterer und malzig Ale-typischer Nachgeschmack.

clear amber colour, 1 inch creamy beige-ish , stable head;aroma of caramel, fruityness and hints of scottish shortbread; taste of very well ballanced hoppy bitterness and malty sweetness with fruity notes; correct ale, easy to drink;

500ml bottle at home. Pours clear amber brown, minimal head. Aromas of toffee and iron. Taste has some light metallic bitterness, and light caramel sweetness. Thin though. Not very good.

50cl bottle @ Betty’s Bar in Ritz Hotel. Pours amber with a decent head. The nose has faint toffee and caramel malt aromas. The taste confirms the toffee and sweet malt and there is a slight malt astringency on the end. The palate is medium bodied with a tangy but astringent texture which continues to the end. Overall, would have liked more hops or more body - one of the two - it’s kind of in the middle and wishy-washy.

Malty aroma certainly in its taste, but it also has a decent bitterness to it too.

Smooth one. A very good representative of the Bitter type. A refreshing ale with soft carbonation, bit sweet malty, bready, citruses. Beautiful amber body which is a bit thick, but the aftertaste is very longlasting.

50cl bottle, 1.95€, 3.9%. Clear amber beer with big beige to off-white head, mostly lasting. Light roasted malts, some herbs and raisins with a subtle smokey note. Fairly dry, sweetish with an appleish acidic tone and a minimal orange peel bitterness. Light bodied, soft, slightly creamy but mostly watery texture. Soft to medium carbonation. Overall weak (as expected for a 3.9%).
