Named after a warlike tribe of ancient Britains, the Silures made a fierce resistance to the Roman conquest around AD 48. This powerfully hopped, beer is testament to their skill and strength of character. Brewed with sweet Caramalt and Maritime Spruce tips in the percolator, Silures delivers delicious tropical fruit flavours with a hint of pine needles. Robust and thoroughly rewarding.

500ml bottle. Clear dark golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Herbal and piney hop aroma, underlying malty basis with a vanilla touch, some sweat. Taste is minimally sweet pale malty, slightly bitter, piney and herbal hoppy overtones; in the finish on a higher bitter hoppy level. Really nice.

Cask at William Steam JDW, Darlington. Golden yellow colour, white head leaving lots of lacing and citrus aroma. Taste is caramel malt with grapefruit citrus and a dry bitter finish. Soapy mouth feel, medium body, soft carbonation. Quite drinkable.

Bottled (from AbM). Yellowish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is tropical fruits, some mild nectar and vanilla as well. Flavour is sweet malts, mild bready notes along with nectar and some tropical fruits. Quite interesting bitterness kicking in rather lately.

Cask at the Old Gaolhouse (JDW), Winchester. A slightly hazy amber, with a scummy white head; citrus aroma; sharp grapefruit taste with a grainy body; and a prolonged bitter graprefruit finish. Yet another grapefruit blonde.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 19/05/2012. Deep gold with a slight white head. Aroma of peaches, tangerines and sweetish malts with some grassy hops. Flavour had more sweetish, citrus fruit, creamy malts and a decent, bitter fish. A good beer from the former Newmans.
