750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/21/2017. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of huge raisin, plum, fig, date, apricot, pear, red apple, orange peel, coriander, peppercorn, clove, allspice, ginger, anise, cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel, brown sugar, dark/brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of banana, bubblegum, chocolate, cocoa, toffee, molasses, licorice, smoke, and herbal/yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, and dark/bready/light roast malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge raisin, plum, fig, date, apricot, pear, red apple, orange peel, coriander, peppercorn, clove, allspice, ginger, anise, cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel, brown sugar, dark/brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of banana, bubblegum, chocolate, cocoa, toffee, molasses, licorice, smoke, and herbal/yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness and light herbal/spice bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark fruits, apricot, pear, red apple, orange peel, coriander, peppercorn, clove, allspice, ginger, anise, cinnamon, nutmeg, banana, bubblegum, caramel, brown sugar, dark/brown bread, toasted biscuit, licorice, molasses, light chocolate/cocoa/smoke, and herbal/yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, and dark/bready/light roast malt flavors; with an awesome malt/spiciness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish, Lightly increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mildly increasing warmth of 10.5%, with zero booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing spiced Belgian strong dark ale! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, and dark/bready/light roast malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV; with the mellowly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Perfect balance of Witbier yeast esters, spices, and dark/bready malts. There is a laundry list of spices, but nothing feels overwhelming or out of place. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example.
