Super hazy golden coloured body with a honey glow of orange shades topped with a magnificent three centimetre tall microbubbled tan head - this is the way a saison should look. Aroma of yeast, grass, hay, coriander seed and a touch of caster sugar. Full-bodied; Grassy, assertive yeast character with a lot of wheat noticeable, some light sugars, a touch of fruit and a good barnyardie saisony flavour that isn’t overpowering at all. Aftertaste is full-bodied and showing a lot of depth - with the grass and herbal tastes front and centre with a noticeable wheat and yeast as well with the spices and sugars on the tail end. Overall, hard to do a saison better than this, the depth and body of the beer are great, the complexity is outstanding and the flavours are divine - a great beer that’s worth searching for. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 18-November-2011 for US$8.49 sampled at home in Washington on 24-March-2012. Batch #2, bottled May 2011.

My wife brought this one back from a trip to Rochester. A solid saison. +++Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy golden color with a medium sized creamy yellow-white head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was tangy lemon, pepper and bread though it was a bit faint. The flavor was tart and tangy orange, lemon, pepper, coriander, dust and yeast. The finish was medium length and turned a bit dry. Medium body. Solid.

Bottle shared at The Kernel. Pours cloudy, yellow-gold with a soft, white foam head. Bready, doughy aroma, faint fruits. Medium sweet flavor, some dough, some white sugar, light grass, some twang. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet, lightly asticky finish, plenty of dough, light pine and grass, some white sugar, very light lemon tartness. Lingering dough, faint toast and light grass. Very nice beer.

Bottle, batch 2 (marked as May 2011). Pours with a hazy orange hued body with a medium to large, foamy white head. Strongly ester aroma with pear and vanilla, tangerine and pluots. Light phenols (pepper, styrofoam), bready, delicate malt character. Lightly spicy. Crisp. Some grassy hop qualities. Flavors are rustic, firmly bitter, spicy, bready, pastries, fruity esters: plums (tart/underripe), nectarine. A bit of a peppery phenol. Light stonefruit and grassy hops. Lively bubbles, and somewhat dry (but not immensely so for a saision). Neutral balance. Very drinkable. I’d drink this any day over Jack D’or.
