In 2004, the city of Ostend commemorated the 400th anniversary of the 'Siege of Ostend' that took place from 1601 to 1604. At the request of the 'Oostendse Bierjutters', a group of enthusiastic beer geeks, this unique beer was created. What was intended to be a one-off brew for the festivities, has become an indispensable icon for Ostend.
The malt of this characteristic, golden blonde triple comes from the French region of Beauce-Gatinais. Together with the added German Munich malt both provide a full-bodied finish. A selection of 4 fine hop varieties from Germany, the Czech Republic, Great Britain and Belgium ensures a subtly balanced nose. The careful re-fermentation in the bottle ensures a firm, creamy head.

Pale blond with light, soapy head. Aroma is quite fresh and zesty. Intense carbonation. Dry flavour. A bit of a musty mouthfeel and aftertaste.

Pours a thick golden, very hazy, can’t really see through it but plenty or radiating light. Has a small but strong and lasting head. Aroma is typical traditional tripel sweet candied yeasty dough. A bit of a green leafiness to it as well. That nice herbal character balances the sweet Belgian aspects. The flavor losses the herbal character but the sweet yeast dough aspect is so soft and balanced with a different mineral character that it works great. The mouthfeel is full yet not at all heavy. An average mouthfeel fits right in there as well. The bottle conditioning is apparent with the last pour, which turns the beer cloudier and almost orange colored. The aftertaste is able to be light and not overly sweet making this beer very drinkable.
750mL cork and wire, no date (but its definitely at least a year old) , La Fin du Monde tulip glass.

Light to medium gold, high head, lots of bubbles. Rich malt aroma with Belgian yeasts, rather sweet, fruity, with apples. Full malt flavor, rather sweet, fruity (apples) cereal character as well, with honey, and with a touch of sour tartness. Some spices and lemon. Reasonable balance, but really a bit too sweet. Finish of apples, hops (decent but not strong) and alcohol warmth. A decent tripel, somewhat complex, but too sweet.

330 ml bottle. Hazy orange body with a big white head. Slightly spicy aroma dominated by a sweet castor sugar smell. Flavor is sweet and fruity, some apple, sweet malt and sugar with a hint of alcohol. A bit to much on the sweeter side for my liking.

Bottle: Poured a hazy orange yellow with a bubbly white head. Aroma is sweet with some fruit and a spice. The taste is a sweet malt with some fruit. The finish is dry to the tongue, but very alive.
