Spencer Monks' Reserve Ale is a classic Trappist Quadruple ("Quad") in the Belgian tradition. This Quad is fragrant, robust and full-bodied, mahogany in color and crowned with a dense, tan, frothy head. Its malt-forward profile yields to a warm finish.

Bottle (thanks Kurt!) shared @ tasting. Nice dark red to dark amber color, average sized beige head that lasts for a short while and leaves fair to good lacing. Aroma is malts, dark candy sugar. Taste malts, light caramelised sugar hints. A bit thin bodied imo. Nah not great. Drinkable but not nearly a match for -for instance- La Trappe Quadrupel.

Fles gedeeld door Benzai, gedronken met Inoven en Roelzie1986. Het is een amberkleurig bier met een volle moutige smaak.

Birthday bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker; thanks to Anke & family!
Pours hazy dark brown with a reddish hue and a lasting, foamy, beige head. The aroma contains dark chocolate, hops & spices, some coffee (roast), roasted malt, caramel, herbs, bread and alcohol. It tastes medium chocolatey sweet and light to medium roasted bitter; the finish is a bit dry, herbal and toasty, with some warming alcohol. Full body, oily/creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. A great Belgian-style Quadrupel. More, please!

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Deep ruby body with a thin beige head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of treacle, deodorant and plum. Flavour of burnt caramel, liquorice, wood and cloves. Medium body with a frothy texture. Soft fizz. Rich and a bit hot. Decent.

Pours a nice mahogany from a bottle with a tan head, some lacing. Malty aroma, just a hint of raisin with a good yeastiness. Flavor is caramel malts, yeasty esters. Pretty good beer.

330ml bottle @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours hazy mahogany, small well-appointed foamy pale tan head. Aroma has light dark fruits with a certain malty caramel sweetness. Taste is well-balanced, lightly spicy, with a moreish dark fruit sweetness and soft chocolate emerging on the finish. Fair carbonation that could be turned down a little. Perhaps more chocolatey than other quads, but easy-going and pleasant enough.

355 ml. bottle split with 90 @ Beerlovers Bar. BBF 09 MAY 2019. Dark brown, creamy tanned some mocha head. Nose is what it should be dark fruit in BE fashion with spice, clove, lively but sadly it is also a bit too soapy. Carbonation is too high & the whole feels a bit thin & soap dominates heavily the taste, afterwards you get herbs, cloves, cloves, cardamom, BE dark fruit those parts are proper but the soap, bit empty taste, higher carbonation ruins. It has some of the proper elements that you would expect but a lot of stuff that brings it down, unfortunately it winds up feeling like something that could be tuned to a great beer but it isn’t. You could expect something a bit more robust at this ABV.

Bottle at Beerlovers Bar. Pours dark brown, small white head. Smell is very clove-forward. Mild caramel, earthy notes. Taste is bit bitter, full, creamy, caramel, cloves, some chocolate. Mild gingerbread. Nice. Perhaps a bit much on the cloves though.
