Cask at The Hanging Bat. Pours black with a big tan head. Very fruity aromas, plums and cooked apples, some roastiness and alcohol. Taste has more plums, bit of liquorice, warming alcohol and dark sugars. Long finish. Very nice.

Cask-conditioned at the Barley Mow, Bristol, November 2013. Dark brown with a slight, off-white head. Brown sugar, some choclate, roasted malts, oak and a big finish with plenty of warming alcohol. Tried alongside the base beer, Old Freddy Walker, which was preferable and less boozy (and also half the price), but an interesting beer nonetheless.

Cask at Small Bar. It pours near black with a thick light tan head. The nose is soft roast, wood, coffee, cocoa, bitter-sweet, spice and stewed apples. The taste is smooth roast, earth, cocoa, mild acidity, wood, stewed apple, pear skin, vinous notes and a lick of alcohol with a dry finish. Medium-full body, fine carbonation and soft mouth-feel. Tasty, good depth and well-balanced. Very nice indeed.
