Double Barrel-aged Imperial Stout | Aged in whiskey and Cabernet Barrels

Our world-renowned barrel-aging program has done it again. Returning for year 3, Proper Pour continues to blend the lines of our barrel-aged series with this distinctly wine-barrel finished bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. Aged in 20yr bourbon barrels for almost two years before spending 5 months in mid-coast Californian red wine barrels.

10oz pour at Hops & Bottles. Near black pour, razor thin ring of beige foam. Robust aroma, boozy, chocolate, raisins, grapes. Taste is super smooth considering the ABV, sweet, warm, chocolate covered raisins. Still a sipper, but very enjoyable.

Aromas are dark ripe fruit, dark malt, roast and a hint of toffee. Flavors are similar to nose, balanced between bitter, sweet and carbonation. Add in a touch of coffee and roast comes out a little more. Average body. Fairly easy drinking for the strength. Maybe a hint of whiskey in there somewhere but don't notice the red wine barrel. Decent.

Bottle from Livonia Liquor. Pours a pitch black with purple/brown highlights and a finger of brown head that dissipates. Big Cabernet cask and oak aromas on the nose with dark chocolate and plum aromas. Palate is similar with more Cab and oak, a touch of chocolate and warming whiskey. Finishes balanced with loud whiskey, cabernet and chocolate notes.
