I can't remember if I ordered this bottle from Mikkeller or Beyond Beer. Possibly the latter. Smooth but boozy cognac aroma with some vague liquorice and almonds. Dark and glossy. Pretty much no head. A chain of microbubbles. Heavy bitterness up front - liqourice and charcoal. But I did at first, and I mean for a second or so, get this boozy but sweet edged Christmas pudding taste. It's there but a ghostly memory fighting to make itself known (like the hidden screams in ambient black metal). To be fair, and as to be expected, the bitterness does decrease as I acclimatise to it and more of the boozy sweetness comes through. Medium bodied. Slick, verging on creamy. Average carbonation. Astringent finish. I was expecting to enjoy this more.

Bottle picked up from Biervana, München and consumed in Frank (Camper) Seecamping Wimmer, Maurach, Tyrol, Austria Friday 3rd January 2020. Very, very chocolatey, wow this is so chocolatey. Nice light carbonation buzz but the head lasted barely a few seconds. Quite intense, Loz gets the cognac far more than me. I love this for not being laced with a ton of lactose. Pours black.

Rien à redire, ce Põhjala Öö XO est extrêmement bien réalisée. Le Öö de base est un Imperial Porter de grande classe, et le vieillissement en fût de cognac réussi, ne permet que de l'améliorer. Aux arômes pleins de café, de chocolat, vous ajoutez donc des arômes chaleureux de cognac, avec un alcool à 11,5 % à la fois bien intégré et punchy. Une grande bière.

Keg at Tilt on the Bingohame SHN meet, 07/12/19. Black with a tan cap that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is charr, roast malts, spruce, chocolate, light cognac nip. Taste comprises dark malts, herb, cacao nibs, spruce, oak, dried fruits, toffee, roasted bite. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a kiss of alcohol. Expected more from this ... decent sipper but a little harsh in places.

Svart med ett litet men krämigt skum. Förhållandevis tunn med smaker av söt lakrits, soja och rök som spretar åt alla håll. Till slut är det smaken av alkohol som tar över och dominerar.

Black with thin creamy head. Aroma has light apple. Also wood and alcohol. Smooth texture with a fine carbonation. Dark malts and bitter chocolate play a strong role. As does a drying woody note. Very boozy.
