A very nicely brewed beer. The roast and hop bitterness are perfectly balanced. The malt body and ferment are 75% clean. Just a bit muddy. Bierbaum Amsterdam

Pours black, white , medium small, stable head. Scent is mild. Both hops (grassy) and roast (dark chocolate) are equal, but could be amped up a bit more for me. Taste is surprisingly bitter. beautifully balanced between roast and bitterness. Just a hint of soapyness. Earhty, strong , european (or at least alike) hops. Would have prefered more aromatic hops in a BIPA. The bitterness level is just perfect though. Medium body and carbo, that both work very well with the beer.

Kromme Haring's take on the old black IPA genre, decreasing in its country of origin but fortunately still very alive in craft brewing Europe. Can from Gedeelde Vreugde. Pale greyish beige, mousy, medium thick, cobweb-lacing, stable head, slowly showing some gaps over a black-looking beer with still transparent, beautifully ruby-copper red hue, initially clear and turning only lightly misty with sediment. Aroma of black coffee, fresh yellow grapefruit, wormwood leaf, burnt toast, pine resin, toasted walnuts, unsugared black chocolate, fainter hints of black peppercorns, dried orange peel, liquorish, charcoal, olive oil, diesel. Fruity onset in a clean way, rounded old raisin, dried fig and green banana impressions, softish carb, slick oily-smooth mouthfeel; toasted-brown-bready and toasted walnutty maltiness, bittersweetish with more bitterness than sweetness, from the middle onwards enhanced by a firm, peppery, leafy and quinine-like, lingering yet elegant hop bitterness, yielding retronasal aspects of bitter plant leaves, grapefruit peel and pine resin matching well with the dark bitter malts. Rounded, elegant 'Cascadian dark', very classic in its style so not really adding anything to it, but delivering what one expects from it on all fronts, with both the malt bitterness and hop bitterness being well-developed and interestingly juxtaposed - as it ought to be. Kromme Haring remains among the top IPA brewers in the Netherlands and this black version is a lovely testimony to that statement.

On tap at Dopey's Elixir, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out medium roast, with earthy hops, and some pine. Flavour is robust, with black liquorice, roasted malt, and intense earthy and piney hops. Bold and robust. Fun stuff.

Taste is moderately bitter, zesty, citrusy hoppy and roasty dark malty, hints of coffee and dark chocolate, notes of lemon zest, some orange and mandarine: minimally watery passages. Watery texture, slightly overcarbonated.
