Malziger Beginn, trocken mit Kakao Röstnoten, leicht oxidiert wirkend. Malzig-alkoholisch, etwas vinös, langer Nachhall. Nicht ganz mein Fall. 12/8/9/9/10/10

can. aroma is roasted malts, port wine cellar aroma, woody and fruity (wine cellar fruity). Flavor is roasted malty, licorice, red wine, tons of wood and cellary woody notes. I think they might have almost overdone the cellaring part - the wood and wine flavors are very strong, reducing the roasted malty notes a bit too much. You have to really be deep into barrelled stouts and also those with a fruity note to them from wine or port barrels, or else this will come off as too extreme. while it is quite complex reg. wood and wine flavors , the imperial stoutish rosted malty, coffee, hops part is not very complex, in fact there is only roasted malts and not much of anything else, the wood and the wine has taken over. So the beer ends being in total not that complex and perhaps a bit boring and one dimensional. However, for sure you can taste the barrel and its prior contents here. serious job.

Can, 0.33l. Aroma of red wine, chocolate, vanilla and roasted malt. Pours pitch black color with medium sized soapy light brown head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts with moderate sweet and rich roasted malt and merlot, follows by licorice and wood, mouthfeel is warm alcoholic, while finish is medium bitter. Full body, thick creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Roasted merlot…
