500ml bottle. Opalescent, chestnut colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Minimally grainy, malty and minimally sweet-ish, dark and caramel malty aroma, hints of spelt and silage, some malt lozenge. Taste is sweet-ish, caramel and dark malty with a minimally sugary touch, slightly grainy malty undertones, hints of malt lozenge, a touch of spelt and silage, minimally metallic overtones.
Dissolved sugar neriched, watery texture, minimally dry and repellent palate, medium, prickly carbonation.
Rather sweet and minimally sugary, minimally grainy "dirty" - not fully convincing.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear orangey brown with a solid, off-white head. Biscuity nose. Medium body, slightly roasted but also some sweet caramel. Very faint bitterness. 140723

--Bottled, from Spar, Jochberg. -- Clear nut brown, mid sized head. Bready nose. Mid sweet with light to medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Dark bread and honey. Low to medium bitterness.

Drunk from bottle at a Gasthof in Finkenburg: Brunnhaus. Clear light brown, good head. Quite malty and overly sweet, across between beer and Karamalz, very little hops. Simple flavor.

Optisch klar Kastanienbraun mit orangefarbenen Reflexen und deutlicher mittelgrober Perlage. Die cremefarbene, feinporige Schaumkrone gibt sich flaumig, sehr stabil und sehr gut haltbar. Die Duftaromatik zeigt sich sehr zurückhaltend, beinahe neutral, jedoch dezent getreidig und etwas süßlich mit ganz zarten holzigen und röstigen Noten. Der Antrunk kommt sanft-rezent und deutlich süßlich. Am Gaumen dominiert eine süßliche, spelzig-getreidige Malznote mit weichem Charakter. So süß, wie anfangs vermutet, ist dieses Bier dann glücklicherweise doch nicht. Etwas mehr Würze und Hopfenaromatik würden diesem Bier aber auch nicht schaden. So wirkt es dann doch etwas langweilig und einfältig. Neben einer hintergründigen Röstaromatik, lässt sich nicht wirklich etwas wahrnehmen. So bleibt es dann doch relativ einfach. Zwar nicht schlecht, aber doch sehr sehr einfach. Die Haptik, ist durch den weichen Charakter zwar gut und auch die Süffigkeit passt - aber ja, einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlässt es dann doch nicht. Im Abgang bleibt eine leicht süßliche Aromatik stehen, aber das war es dann auch schon. Fazit: In Österreich ist und bleibt es schwierig was dunkle Biere betrifft.

Das Dunkle von Zillertal gibt es schon lange, aber bis jetzt hatte ich noch nicht die Gelegenheit eines zu trinkne, da es relativ schwer zu finden ist. Jetzt bringt es mir ein Kollege von einem Ausflug mit. Es ist ein recht klassisches Dunkles, das aber nicht allzu süß ist. Es hat einige rauchige Aromen, aber geht nicht zu sehr in Richtung Porter. Die Aromen sind nicht sonderlich ausgeprägt, was es etwas fad, aber auch gemütlich trinkbar macht.
