Golden-brown with some chill haze. The aroma is smokey, nutty and a lightly chocolatey. Chewy malts are not very bright, but have a nice, soft caramel character nonetheless. The smoke is mellow, but keeps to the palate, never becoming understated. The earthy, chewy character continues through the finish with the smoke falling out slightly.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark red-brown color with a medium sized khaki head. The aroma was tangy, sweetish and had a touch of smoke. The flavor was bitter, lightly roasty and had subtle undertones of wood and smoke. The finish was dry and malty with a lingering light smokiness. The alcohol was well hidden. Ok.

12oz bottle-pours a cascading rich light tan head with heavy lacing and deep red color. Aroma is rich malt, smoke, some dark fruit, earthy hops. Taste is rich malt-brown sugar, nutty/smoke, some dark fruit, earthy hops. Minimum carbonation but nice mouth feel. A nicely done, enjoyable beer. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out.

Draft at Redlight Redlight. 1st beer in a smoked horizontal draft selection. Nice smokiness with a rich maltiness in the nose. Deep ruby color, smallish head with sparse lacing. Light smoke flavor again with a good maltiness. Tingly finish.

Bottle. Pours a darkish brown with a one finger head. Aromas are heavy with brown sugar malt (very little smoke), nuts and earth. Flavor is about the same... it’s a malt and sweet heavy beer that leaves me wondering how on earth this is called a smoked beer. I can only pick up a little bit of earthiness, but anything smoked is hard to find.

Courtesy of fishingnet. Pours brown with copper edges and off white head. The aroma is sweet and mild smoky malts to go along with a bit of roasted malts. It is a mild aroma but pretty nice. The taste begins sweet with a brief pulse of rauch malts and then slowly moving into roasty malts. A bit of smoke tends to build into the finish. Very mild smokiness for a smoke beer.

courtesy of fishingnet. Pours brown/ruby with thick white head. Aroma is malty / caramel with very light nose of smoke. Taste is smokey though it remains well hidden. malty, light touch of hops and fruits. Drinkable, wish it had a bigger smoke twist to it.

Had this on tap at the Mad Mex and would have never guessed this was a smoked. Lighter colored root beer appearance. Has a big thick chreamy tan head. Aroma is just good old clean and friendly beer, no hint of smoke. Initially quite bitter on the back of the throat and medicinal on the palate. Barely any detectable carbonation. Bitterness continues to build thru the session. Long bitter linger.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a brown color with barely a red tint. Not much of a head and speckled lacing. Aroma is toffee, candi sugar and a hint of smoke. Taste is caramel, sugary malts and a moderate smokiness. Not quite meaty, which is nice. Medium bodied.

When I was told that this was a smoked weizenbock, I knew I had to try it - sadly, there is almost nothing weizenbockish about this beer, and barely anything smoked, either - bummer - however, it is still fairly enjoyable once you get past that - the smoke is way in the back in the aroma, washed out quite a bit by nondescript fruity esters, brown sugar, and vague hints of phenolic presence - actually fairly bitter, with some toasted wheat malt character, a little bit of a wheatish tang - sweet through the middle, with brown sugar and that vague fruitiness from the aroma - finishes with some leafy tobacco bitterness, and very, very faint smoke - a little yeasty on the back end - with a lot more smoke, this would be pretty damn good - still not bad, though.
