A tall, tight tan head sits over this murky brown brew. Sweet malt aroma that is repeated in the flavor. Not much smoke here.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, off-white head with good retention over a hazed brown body. Aroma of smoke, chocolate, vanilla and wood. Taste is quite smokey with biscuit, chocolate and wood playing back-up. Water like aroma, light bubbles.

Bottle from Captain Cougar. Lots of appreciation. Dark reddish copper color with a slight beige/tan head. Aromas of dark malt with a little smoke. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is quite smokey. Other than that thereβs some malt and light hop. This is a very good ale, refreshing and enjoyable. Every taste is a joy. I think this stuff tends to be underrated.

Deep cola coloured brownish copper tinted body with a thick dense tan head. Aroma of metal, raisins, cherries, alcohol, pit fruits and a bit of spice. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive malt taste up front showing some smoked peat, but not much. Aftertaste shows a TON of nuts, alcohol, a touch of spice (nutmeg and allspice are most prevalent) and some brown sugar. Overall, lacking on the smoked qualities, but heavy on the alcohol and bitterness from the malt - not very telling. Probably not worth trying, unless you are a big Weyerbacher fan or want to sample all of the Rauchβs out there. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, D.C. on 07-March-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 31-March-2009.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 3/23/09
Aroma: Malts, caramel, surprisingly light on the smoke
Appearance: Brown, slight clearness to it for a beer this color, medium off-white head
Flavor: Kind of sweet, mildly bitter
Palate: Relatively well balanced, medium body, great mouthfeel
Overall Impression: This beer works well, it translates nicely, and progresses pretty well through the palate. The sweetness of the caramel is backed nicely by a mild hoppy bitterness and a subtle sweetness on the finish. Overall, it works pretty well.

Pours dark caramel brown with tan head. Very mild smokey aroma. Flavors of light smoke, caramel, toasted malts. Slightly sweet. Not as smokey as I would have liked for a smoked beer, but it was still good. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a small frothy light tan head. Decent spotty lacing on the glass. The aroma is a roasted malt with smoke and caramel. The taste is a bitter roasted malt with smoke and chocolate. A good smoked from weyerbacher

12oz bottle. Brown-red color, slightly murky with a minimal head. Roasty, thick, and malty, with a solid smoked malt character. Some light hops way in the background which provide some crispness, but overall dominated by malty sweetness. Quite well done, a little deeper and refined than your typical smoked beer. Not overbearing smoke-wise, more fits into the grand scheme. A great beer.

Pours light mahogany into a stein. Off-white head with good retention recedes to coat surface leaving spot lacing. Sweet smoke aromas. Sweet with a bit of pumpkin upfront, turning smoky and sour in the lasting finish.
