Thanks to Robson for bringing this. For me this beer has the perfect color. Fantastic dark brown with a deep dark red glow coming through. Large lacy beige head. Smell malts, nuts, raisin and caramel. Taste is just English bitter. Carbo and body ok. Nice beer.

Clear dark red brown with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, dried fruit, caramel and roasted malt. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Smooth and soft with a light dry and bitter finish. 161110

Dark beer. Pleasantly malty with a hint of marmite. Not bitter. Some unpleasant eggyness in the finish detracts.

bottle from Bierzwerg. Deep brown colour, mid-sized beige head. Bitter aroma of burnt caramel - interesting. Full-bodied, lots of caramel, chocolate and espresso flavours, with a rather full-bodied maltiness present, also shy hints of honey.Bitter aromatic hops blend in towards thefinish. A delicious Christmas beer.

(bottle) Clear, ruby brown colour with a big and beige foamy head. Toasty malty aroma with earthy notes, caramel and liquorice, accompanied by subtle fruity and herbal spicy hops. Moderately bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a calm carbonation. Toast-malty, slightly earthy taste with liquorice, a tinge of chocolate and subtle fruity notes in the background; roasty bitter finish with lingering notes of dark chocolate. A dark clear brown ale with a thick brown head. In aroma, dark fruits, roasted coffee beans, burned caramel, quite nice. In mouth, a smooth bitter chocolate with dark fruits, light molasses, light coffee, quite nice, given this is more than 3 years old. Tasted with GRM, Probstk, and Mike H., Oct. 8 2010.

500ml bottle. Pours near pitch black with a large head. Aroma is dark fruits, berries and roasted malt. Licorice and burnt toffee start. Finishes with the roasted malt.

500 ml bottle, $4 at Binny’s. Sweet ale smell, some coffee hidden in the nose, too. Dark brown color, few bubbles, clear highlights, big foamy tan head. Taste is straight ahead brown ale, but then those coffee roast notes appear again. Despite being only 5.5% abv, it’s very warming. Melted brown sugar or treacle appear, and earthy, peppery English hops. Carbonation may seem low, but not flat, a little more bubbly than an English cask ale or than yesterday’s St. Peter’s Winter Ale. Yet another fine fireside ale.

Bottle. Nice head with medium duration. Color is dark brown. Aroma and taste are rich with nuts, malt, hops and has notes of fruits and some roast as well.
