2008-12-17, bottle, 2008 edition! Färg: Bränd pepparkaka, härlig stabil skumkrona. Doft/Smak: Kaffe, medium beska - var är nötterna? Lång stabil eftersmak. Balanserad, välgjord- men i mitt tycke lite tråkig - druckigt den förut hos andra bryggerier. Plus dock för vacker etikett Passar bäst till: Ostkaka

Bottle: Deep ruby amber coloured, relatively persistent small beige head; dry fruity-bitter nose, supported by faint aromas of liquorice and roasted malt and cacao powder; solid dry bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied; lingering bitter-sweet finish with traces of dark malt and nuts. Very pleasant strong and bitter stuff..........

Bottled (thanks to the craziest bartender ever!) Deep reddish brown colour with mediumsized creamy off white head. Aroma is spices, some nuttyness, rather sweet caramel malts as well as some underlying syrupy sweetness. Flavour is nutty, caramel malty and has some spices as well. Some mild notes of fruits as well as pine too. Pleasant and balanced HN product.

Huge beige lasting head. Barely translucent deep dark red body with light carbonation. Hoppy fruity peas aroma with roasty chocolatey notes. Not a good mix, otherwise great. Dry-sweetish delicate fruity peppery peas taste with hay notes. Soft, mild mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Dryish roasty dusty licorice and chocolate aftertaste with fruity notes. Some wood as well. Again not happy with the mix of flavours, but otherwise a gorgeous beer. (0.5l bottle, Systembolaget, Charlottenberg.)

Bottle. Ruby color with a thick beige head. Spice & roasted caramel for aroma. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Rich caramel with citrus and spice for flavor. It is suggestive of a quad with regard to malt or maybe there’s some chocolate. Finish is astringent more than anything else. I’d drink it frequently, were it available.

Bottled. Mahogany colour, small creamy head. Restrained roasty/fruity nose. Medium sweet wit hsolid body and well rounded mouthfeel. There’s roasty malt with undertones of raisin. Salty bitterish finish.

[500ml bottle from Waitrose, Marlow] Ruby-black with a moderate and rapidly diminishing creamy head. Annoyingly prickly carbonation. Dusty mineral bitterness to the fore from the off. Behind it there’s a little chocolate, smoke, liquorice and hazelnut, and maybe some blackberries. Quite a thin texture, yet leaves your mouth rather sticky. Aftertaste is still dominated by the mineral flavour. Feels like an interesting beer has been ruined by the mineral taste and high carbonation - maybe they should try bottle-conditioning it? Would be interested to see how much better the cask version is.

Brown with medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt and caramel. Somewhat sweet flavour with spicy and chemical notes.

500ml bottle. Chestnut brown color with stained glass red edges. Seawater choco toffee aroma. Rich and roasty, with lots of chocolaty dark malt flavor. Not unlike a Porter or a Dunkel, but with a sandy hop balance and richness that really makes this a great beer. Another stellar beer from Hook Norton.

Bottle, 5.5%. Clear dark brown colour. Very small tan head. The flavour starts off roasted with a little barley bitterness. Turns more malty and mellow, but ends with a little new bitterness.
