Troubadour Magma Tango, the yearly special edition of Troubadour Magma, is a "single hop", meaning the beer is brewed with only one hop variety. This offers a unique opportunity to discover the specific characteristics of this hop variety. Instead of a mix of hop aromas and flavours, you get a pure and unfiltered experience of everything this hop has to offer.

Tango hops are known for their complex and inviting aromas. You notice clear characteristics of ‘sweet fruit’ (red berries, cassis) but aromas of citrus are less emphatic than in typical IPA hops. This hop variety has a link to classic hop varieties and this is also reflected in the aroma: you experience green, spicy and grassy notes. The flavour profile is dominated by lively notes, complemented by a hint of berry sweetness. The hop bitterness is present but not overwhelming, making for a balanced and pleasant drinking experience. The finish is refreshing, with a slight dryness that invites another sip.

Very frothy yellowish ehad with nice lace over ochre-ish orange beer, lazily carbonated. Very fruity nose, ripe muscat grapes, yeast, and faintly toasted malts, rosewater. Oxydation, oxydated hops into rosewater, some restsugars. Finish however is quite bitter, metallic. Orangepeel. Warming up, the orange flavour becomes more and more apparent. Well-bodied, soft carbonation, quite slick to oily. Nice, and with some original features.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is piney hop with sugary orange, pine resin, malt, marmalade, some grapefruit. Flavour is bitter with a moderate sweetness. Medium body. One of the better Magma versions in years, I'm glad this series continues.

(Draught at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Brussels, 17 Oct 2024) Pale amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with orange peel, apricots and pink grapefruit. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of orange peel, apricots, resin, pine needles, caramel and a generous citric/piney bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Rich and hoppy. Nice one.

31/XII/24 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 2/VIII/27, lot: 9404240802 (2024-1357)

Clear blond orange beer, big creamy yellowish head, a bit irregular, stable, adhesive. Aroma: lots and lots of bubble gum, cuberdons (forest fruit flavoured candy), strawberry flavoured bubble gum, (over)ripe banana, sweet impression. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very bitter, a bit resinous, hoppy, grassy, banana peel, a bit metallic, sweet and sugary. Aftertaste: bitter, orange peel, more bitterness, resinous hops, some grapefruit, bubble gum, banana peel, bleh. Very disappointing for an IIPA.

Pours slightly unclear, amberblonde. Scent is crystal malts, crisp and tasty. Mild (green) hops. Taste is full, crystal malts, medium bitterness. Creamy, well pronounced intensity. Mild fruityness. Very drinkable, let alone for a 9%er.

Pale copper colour with lasting lacy head. Strongly malty and quite sweet. The hop profile is fruity with mild tropical fruit and candied lemon. Interesting twist on the standard version. Lots of bitterness in the aftertaste.
