Bottle. Pours a dark,almost black, translucent with a small creamy head. Aroma is sweet with roasted malts and yeast with prunes and dark fruits, as well as notes of oak, vanilla and molasses. Full creamy body with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet with burned malts, oak, chocolate and leather, giving a nice sweet chocolatey finish.

Bottle from Craft beer Co online shop. A deep ruby/brown coloured pour with a huge beige head on top. Sweet, malty, fruity, yeasty aroma. Tastes very Belgian, incredibly sweet, yeasty, fruity, malty, caramel. Nice and complex.

Draft: Poured a dark brown with off white head. Aroma was of hops, fruit, and malts. Taste was strong malts with light hops and an alcohol burn. I could see aging this a little to bring that hotness down a notch.

Clear dark purple beer, irregular off-white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: chloride, caramel, dried fruits, bit metallic, brown sugar, raisins. MF: ok carbon, medium body. taste: caramel, some citrus, little bitter, spices, sugary, liquorish. Aftertaste: chloride, bitter hops, metallic, dried fruits, cloves, aniseed. I was not exactly impressed by this beer, as happens with a lot of American impressions of a Belgian style beer. Too bad.

Draught at Faucets, Tokyo. Clear brown colour with a tan head. Aroma of gingerbread cookies, dried fruit. Flavour of caramel, spices.

12oz bottle. A really well done US-Belgian Ale. Deep burgundy-brown body, frothy beige head. Some chocolate in the aroma, but also some funky Belgian yeast tones, and a sort of sharp mineral astringency. Somewhere past double and into Grand Cru territory, with lots of funky yeast nuances. Quite enjoyable, the dry astringency is the only thing that keeps it from being world class, but is also what makes it unique.

Aroma of booze, floral hops and perfume. Well I guess perfume is just booze and flowers anyway... Pours brown with creamy head. Low carbonation. Aftertaste is hoppy, the floral kind. A little salty as well with some bitterness from the booze. The latter is a little too pertinent, but that’s more like an imperfection with this great beer.

Sample at 101 Beer Kitchen. This brew pours a clear mahogany color with a medium khaki head that diminishes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel and yeast. Medium to full body with a sweet malty character and flavors of caramel, earthy yeast and ripe fruit. The finish is sweet with a caramel malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

12 ounce bottle. Transluscent dark brown color topped by a Medium rocky beige head. Aroma is smoky roasted malt with hints of raisins and vanilla. Wonderful roasted malt flavor has hints of candi sugar, dried fruits and spicy belgian yeast. Alcohol is barely noticeable as this is so very smooth and flavorful. Hops show up in finish, with a touch of spruce and black peppercorns. Delicious.
