When our founder John McDonald delivered thefirst keg of Pale Ale on November 17th 1989, the beer scene was vastly different than today. John set out to “do something different” and since that day, year after year, beer after beer, that spirit of innovation remains the same. We are celebrating 35 years of creativity and collaboration with this barrel-aged blend, aged in Soft Red Wheat Bourbon barrels and Ben Holladay Bottled in Bond barrels from our friends at Holladay Distillery. Raise a glass to 35 years of great beer!

Aromas are dark malt, dark rape fruit, a little molasses and a hint of taffy. Flavors are very similar to nose just much more intense. Sweet bitter tart. A little warmth in the finish. Good sipping.

A strong ale that was aged in Wheat Bourbon barrels from Ben Holladay. Damn, I have been waiting for this one. A 12 oz bottle picked out at Half Time. There’s a globe glass in place, the cap is off and I’m pouring. A dark toffee brown body finished by a minimal skim of khaki foam. The smell is super, dark ripe fruit, baked grain and booze. The drink is simply better, I should’ve bought more than one. Dark plums, wheat bread, chocolate, berries of some kind, wood, cane syrup, whiskey and dates. Ommegang made a beer some years ago that was a combination of imperial stout and quadrupel, a phenomenal beer. This is scarily similar. Scary in a good way. Easily the top tasting I have had in some time.

Bottle - pours a clear amber - presents a bit like a barleywine blended with a bit of Belgian quad - caramelized sugars and treacle, cookie dough, but also dark fruit and a little bit of spice - finishes mostly like a barleywine - it’s okay, but nothing worthy of their 35th anniversary.

Bottle from Livonia Liquor. Pours a deep chestnut brown with a small bit of beige head that dissipates quickly. Toasted malt, caramel, molasses, wheated bourbon and vanilla on the nose. The wheated bourbon notes really dominate the palate. Lower carbonation with a smooth, silky mouthfeel. Warming bourbon, oak, vanilla, toffee and red fruit lingers on the finish. Enjoyable.
