Bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. Pours a dark brown with beige head that starts with a bit of foamy fizz but settles to a lovely smooth top. Dark malt aroma, semi-sweet, smokey, dark chocolate, hint of blackberry. Taste is quite rich but has enough lightness of body to offset. A touch meaty with dark malts, smoke and wood, with light sweetness and a subtle tangy fruit element. Good level of character for a session strength porter. Light to medium bodied with soft mouthfeel. Good.

Cask at Lych Gate, Wolverhampton. Pours almost black with a small beige head and good lacing. The first essay at an aroma gave me vanilla, the second gave me chocolate – so … In the mouth it is mainly milk chocolate and dark fruits. Some liquorice as well, but a bit watery. Finish is fruity with hints of liquorice. S-s-s-superb !

Cask @ Salopian, the pub. Pours dark, tan head. Ashy roast on the nose. Fairly thin on the palate, presenting some dark chocolate, woody roast, very light smoky notes. Ok.
