Following up on the success of last year’s Mole Porter, we decided to brew an imperial strength version of this English style porter, with spices reminiscent of Mexican Mole (or Americanized “Molé”) sauce. In addition to the basic ingredients, Chipotle peppers, cinnamon, and cacao, we also added Mexican vanilla, Mulato and Pasilla Negro peppers. For added depth, we also aged the porter in tequila barrels for 8 months. All of this comes together for a rich and complex beer that keeps you coming back for more. This mildly warming beer that is great for Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, Thanksgiving, and all through the holidays.

Can Liz brought back from the brewery. Pours dark brn/blk with a moderate tan head. Aroma of chocolate, cinnamon and chili. Med plus body. Flavor starts with a suggestion of Mexican chocolate (cinnamon) but has quite a chili impression. Fairly dry. Bitter from things other than hops, and not very. Basically this is a chili/chocolate drink. Quite nice and refined.

16oz can picked up at the brewery. Pours clear dark brown with a small beige ring, no lacing. Chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, tequila, woody and mild peppers. Good

Had for different holiday than recommended being late Christmas Eve but still enjoyable. Dark pour sure. Nose is tequila and mole spicing. Tastes of chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, tequila, wood, rootbeer. Smooth palate. Some alcohol warming. Quite nice and hit the spot tonight.
