Charles “Bob” Hirsch (1984-2005) is our inspiration for Bob’s Brown Ale, having fought cancer for half of his 21 years. We brew this beer in his memory and donate 100% of our proceeds to Ronald McDonald House Charities. Bob’s mom, Sue, chose RMHC as the recipient charity for our donation, saying, “They put us up for treatment every time we came in from Alaska.”
We usually release this hoppy brown ale on May 14th, Bob's birthday, every year. 2020 threw us a curveball, but we couldn't end the year without releasing a batch. Look for it in cans mid-December.
Malts - 2 Row Pale, Munich, C-60, Roasted, Chocolate
Hops - Centennial, Crystal, Cascade
Yeast - English Ale Yeast

Can from Tavour. Pours clear dark brown with a huge creamy tan head that turned foamy with lacing. Aroma of nuts and roasted malt. Not quite med body. Flavor is nuts, roasted malt and a touch of non-hot spice. Nutmeg? Fairly dry, not very bitter. Good for the style.

On Tap at Elizabeth Station, Bellingham. Clear medium redish brown. Lasting thick soapy tan head. A nice fairly robust brown ale.

On tap at bitter creek boise. pours out a crisp clear amber brown topped with a tan head. nose is light roast and little nutty wood notes. Taste is more of the light roast and touch of coffee and the little wood notes.

On tap, Virginia Inn, Belltown, Seattle
Bright dark chestnut brown colour. Nutty aroma with nuances of milk chocolate and tobacco. Smooth palate of hazelnuts and light chocolate notes - that nut tastes artificial though they don’t even use any hazelnut at all. Strange. A bit of raw vanilla astringency comes in late. That raw, harsh finish really cuts what begins life as a very sweet brew and impedes the drinkability of the brew. I would suggest cutting back the alcohol as this seems to be the source of the problem.
