As part of Manchester Beer Week we joined three other breweries (Blackjack, Squawk and Tickety Brew) in producing a lost beer recipe. We went back to 1903 and rebrewed J.W.Lees’ XXX Strong ale. And it was very good.

Talking with Ron Pattinson is an absolute delight, this chap lives for researching heritage brewing and is a walking encyclopaedia of knowledge. So, of course we decided that one Heritage Brew wasn’t enough, and to follow up a historical Manchester beer we’ve brewed an even older Leeds beer. The recipe for Tetley’s East India Pale Ale from 1868 called for a lot of hops. A LOT!!! This recipe is almost 150 years old, and could put a lot of modern IPAs to shame.
