Our vanilla bean laden barrel aged imperial stout returns today. A blend of various stout barrels, all purposely brewed to inky black levels designed not only to withstand the barrel aging process, but to thrive in the presence of the charred whiskey-soaked staves. Without question, this batch of Less than Alone has the oldest spirit barrel aged stock we’ve ever put together, with every barrel of the blend at 19 months old… it’s kind of a big deal.

After maturation in barrels, the blend was moved to stainless for further conditioning on a measured, yet ample amount of our proprietary in house processed whole vanilla beans for what we sought to be our ultimate expression of our favorite stout adjunct. As we continue down our often singular and focused approach to refine what we do, our attention to vanilla bean processing has evolved to showcase the depth of vanilla in a way we’re quite proud of.

We notice impressions of deep vanilla leading into sweeter dark cocoa dusted marshmallow filling, mocha covered dark chocolate covered cherry, and finishing with a deep burnt turbinado sugary caramel like character. 12% ABV.

Draft at TCB Downtown. Near black pour, razor thin ring of beige head, still. Aroma is a near perfect blend of roasty malts and chocolate, sweet, light booziness. Taste is sweet, malty, roasty, dark chocolate, creamy, heavy. Booze dances around, you know it's there, but it never steps out in front. Pretty luscious.

Bottle thanks to Kinz, shared at my 20k Release Bottle Share, 10/8/22. Dark brown, thin head, fair retention. Aroma of cocoa, brownie batter, vanilla, dark fruit. Taste is vanilla, cherry, roast, oak, whiskey, raisin. Full bodied, booze hidden well. Very, very nice. Best beer of the tasting.

Roast and some well integrated caramel. Dark chocolate. Great balance here. Mocha and a bit of tobacco. Black pour with good head and lacing. Bittersweet end. Tap at Fulton location.
