Every year we age a special batch of our much-loved Russian Imperial Stout in Bourbon barrels. The depth, intensity, and complexity of the flavor profile of this special release, like its predecessors, make it a worthy tribute to Old Rasputin. This year, two variants of barrel aged Old Rasputin were produced -- one in rye whiskey barrels, and the other in wheat whiskey barrels.

Bottle - pours black tan head - nose/taste of whiskey, rye, chocolate, vanilla, oak and coffee- medium body.

500mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of spicy, earthy rye barrels, along with alcohol and a touch of roast. Flavour is fairly thin and abrasive, with earthy spicy rye barrels, some whiskey, roast and alcohol. Very abrasive, but not as much as the wheat whiskey version. Needs some aging. Good, but too hot and difficult to drink.

500 ml bottle. Pours black with full tan head. Aromas of whiskey and dry chocolate. Flavors of whiskey soaked chocolate cake - more on flavor than ABV. Rounded off with toasted malts and lightly bitter coffee. Really nice. Barrel is not overwhelming.

Draft at Bistro Barrel Aged Fest. Nose is vanilla, chocolate, and a hint of rye whiskey. Black with a medium tan head. Flavor is lightly sweet with vanilla, coffee, and chocolate.

500 c&c from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brn/blk with a creamy darkish tan head. Aroma of rye and dark malt. Full bodied, or nearly. Flavor is a burst of heat/whiskey, followed by chocolate, dark malt and rye spice. Hard to say which is dominant - but I’ll choose the rye. There’s a heat burn in the back of the mouth. Nothing to write home about. The chocolate gets a chance to shine with a bit of time. If there’s coffee, it’s lost in all the strong flavors. This is a really good ale.
