Festive Star. For our celebration of the Christmas holiday spirit, we took our smooth drinking and robustly flavoured Northern Star mocha porter and jazzed it up with classic warm winter spices, namely cinnamon and nutmeg. Festive Star is basically the equivalent of mulled wine in beer form, only brewed with roasted barley and coffee beans. So sit back, cosy up with your loved ones and crack a few open to make your merriest memories of the year.

Tight bubbly tan head left a good collar on a dark oak coloured still body. Dark coffee, espresso & malt aroma. Medium to thin body, sharp on the palate with a thin lacking finish. Spiced tastes of espresso, roast, cinnamon, cocoa nutmeg & redberry.

Keg at BD Aberdeen. It pours near black with a small tan head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, warming spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, sticky chocolate and Xmas cake. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, roasted malt, festive spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa, mocha, chai tea, treacle and wood with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent spiced porter.

Keg @ Station. Pours dark reddish brown, nose tells of a cinnamon, chocolate and Christmas spice nose. Taste is spicy indeed, assorted cinnamon-lead notes emerging, not too much thankfully, with additional cocoa and distant coffee roast. Nice balance of flavours.

Keg at the Cask, Pmlico-co, 22/12/14. Black with a good sized tan covering that retains. Nose is coffee grinds, roast malt, toffee, light smoke, liqourice, cocoa rub, subtle spice - not overbearing. Taste comprises chocolate, cinammon, coffee, tar, clove, liqourice stick, leather. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid coffee meets spiced porter, good balance, could have drank more than a half pint easily as wasn’t a spice bomb.
