A unique beer that ambushes your senses, it pours dark with a creamy beige head but tastes light and hoppy! Complex hoppy fruity flavours and aromas mixed with roasty bitter chocolate and coffee tones. Low carbonation for a smooth stout like finish. Dressed in black, charged with hops and ready to rock.

Bottle share at Bruce’s pad. Semi opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry. Good fine carbonation. Thin dark malts but they bring a little tangy roast. Robust floral bitterness with an undertone of marmalade. Light finish. Strong bitter linger. Decent.

Bottle thanks to Kenny. It pours deep brown with a small light tan head. The nose is toasty, bitter-sweet, brown sugar, fruitcake, marshmallow and nougat. The taste is bitter, roasted malt, toast, earth, pepper, charred wood, tar, citrus rind and light burnt notes with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Bitter and burnt. Not much depth. So-so.

Bottle shared in London - pours clear brown with a frothy khaki head. Well toasted malts with nips of cocoa, earth and coffee. Light sweet flavor with some burnt wood, coffee grounds, bitter earth, burnt grains. Light bodied with average carbonation. Mild roast in the finish with note of burnt pine, earth, more charred grains, some citrus rind. Pretty basic.

0.33l bottle shared outside in a random place where it smells like mariuahna in Barcelona. A really cloudy deep dark brown one. Almost black in a way with a huge brownish head. The nose has licorice and hoppy tones. Some dark slightly roasted tones also. Smells really nice. Dryish flavors. Slightly floral. Dark and a little bit roasted. Easy to drink. Lots of hoppy tones. Fresh. Yeah, I like it. 11.08.2014

Bottle from Supervalu, Longford [080815]
Aroma of soft citrus, piney, soft zest, bit of grapefruit, sweet
Taste of dark malts, some creaminess in the malts?, zesty, some pine, bitter zest, not that fruity though, dark mellow roast, getting a hint of butterscotch in there.
Palate - Soft carb, medium body. Finish of bitter zest, not dry.
Overall - Moreish flavour, liked this. Got the right score now.
Bottle from Dicey Reillys [040414] 7/4/8/4/16 3.9
Pitch black, big frothy tan head
Aroma of grapefruit, slight floral note, citrus hops, good hoppy nose, some soft roasted malts underneath
Taste of grapefruit, nice zesty hops, soft dark malt background, some dark cocoa, complex, good stouty background, really good BIPA
Palate - Soft carb. medium body, good bitter zesty hops with dark quite sweet dark malt. Finish as main flavour with some more bitter roast coming thorough
Overall - I like my Black IPAs to be stouty and this certainly is...I want this on tap and certainly cask if possible. Excellent flavour for the 5% abv as Black IPAs are usually stronger than this

Wow, impressive. Black with red highlighted pour into the pint glass. Medium size off white head, nice lacing on the glass. Big hop aroma, grapefruit, floral, juicy. Hops smack you in the face, some blood and metal flavors(tastes better than it sounds). Roasted coffee beans, sharp cheddar, bitter dark chocolate. Finish is long, mouthfeel is medium to thin. Fantastic interpretation of the style.

Bottle. Clean black with a thin head. Aroma is fruity roast. Flavor is light dry burnt malt with a very light fruity hop middle, long dry burnt base. Lovely balance, nicest black IPA I have tasted so far.
