A positive combination of Fuji cider, slow-roasted farro, a bit of cayenne and fresh cilantro.
This beer part of our Music Series of beers... this one is an amalgamation of hip-hop, beer, cider and a DIY culinary experience! Sam and Dan the Automator of Deltron 3030 teamed up to create Positive Contact, based on Dan's favorite ingredients and Dogfish Head's innovative brewing practices.
Named after a key track on the first album, Positive Contact is a 9% ABV hybrid of beer and cider brewed with Fuji apples, roasted farro, a handful of cayenne peppers and a late dose of fresh cilantro. This sweet-and-sour Belgian-ish brew is a light straw color with fruity, cider-like notes. The cayenne and alcohol give it a warming finish.
For the inaugural release (2012), the beer was packaged in a dynamic box set of six 750-ml champagne bottles, with a 10-inch vinyl EP of four new Deltron 3030 remixes created exclusively for this project, and a list of Deltron 3030-inspired recipes from a small group of renowned chefs. Subsequent releases did not include the vinyl or recipes.

75cl bottle from Total Wine Tampa, screw you for selling this as new in stock in 07-2015 when it was bottled 2013 and barely visible on the bottle.

Bottle thanks to Petrinoda. Pours clear orange, medium white head, dissipates fairly quickly, decent lacing. Aroma is herbal, apple, wheat. Flavor is interesting, peppery, but not hot peppers, apples, herbal notes abound, earthy. Medium body. Different, but not bad at all really.

On tap at Granite State on tap. Lightly hazy golden color with a minimal head. Spicy earthy fruity flavors with a Belgianesque character. I’m surprised how little of the ingredients I found in my sample, but I was at a brew fest. I must try this beer again.

Bottle: Poured a clear bright golden color ale with a medium size white foamy head with medium retention and some lacing. Aroma of apple cider with some coriander notes is quite refreshing. Aroma of cider is quite dominant with some medium sweet notes. Coriander notes are also noticeable and are well-balanced against the sweeter malt base. Body is light with good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Very nice experiment and I could see myself drinking this again on hot summer days.

750 mL bottle. Pours light yellow, with a medium, bubbly, white head. Cinnamon and apple aromas, orange zest, peppercorns, and caramel. Sweet and fruity, with just a little, sharp, tart note. Light to medium body, sharp, and acidic. Overall, this is a fairly nice, fruity, acidic beverage. Not exactly beer, but certainly not cider. Interesting.

Drought. Rich yellow with off white spongy head, weak doughy aroma, low carbonation, high density, slightly sour cider tasting finish. Very nicely balanced, but the spices are not really discernible.

Bottle. Hazy yellow, low carbonation. Low offwhite head. Nice fruity nose - fresh nectarine, lemongrass, some dry code ciderish notes. Medium full, light mealy mouthfeel. Persimmon perfumed base, a hint too sweet, citric finish. In the end a quite pleasant drink, but the fusel oils gave me a bad headache.
