Lager beer using Niigata Koshihikari rice. Crisp and refreshing with smooth finish. Goes very well with Japanese food such as sushi.

Gusher. Medium offwhite coarseish head doesn’t last. Clear yellow body with carbonation of big fast bubbles. Sugary grainy grassy aroma. Dry-sweetish delicate floral fruity taste with herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, smooth mouthfeel with slight fizz. Dry-sweet grainy grapes aftertaste with herbal notes. Very delicate. Perhaps too delicate, even. (0.5l bottle, CitySuper IFC, Central, Hong Kong.)

Extremely mild beer with a light, sweet profile but little to recommend it. The beer is a clear light yellow with an almost entirely disappearing head. The smell is weak, sweet and slightly malty. Taste is similar with a light citric twist of bitterness if you close your eyes and concentrate. It’s mostly just sweet and light. The flavor of rice is, of course, present, and while it’s not my favorite grain flavor, it’s so mild that I can’t complain really. The feel is fizzy but nice and light, which I appreciate with this style. It’s easy to drink, except you might die of boredom from too many, so that’s a minus. I definitely prefer it over a lot of American macros.

50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is grassy hoppy. Sweet cornish and syrupy, dry grassy bitterness. Simple dry finish.

Very pale yellow with almost no head. Not much aroma. Malty taste, not much to balance it. Simple, and maybe too subtle. Not much there.

From the can. Has rice and also wheat malt. light to medium yellow, rather small head. Slightly sweet, slightly fruity, malt-centered aroma. Ok hopping with a touch a grass and citrus. Rather bland flavor, some honey, some fruit. I prefer an all-malt beer. Can’t say this rice has added anything good to it, though I do detect some wheat. Decent, rather light in body, but not very interesting. Hops too light.

Golden, bright. A few bubbles. No head. The aroma is appley for the most part. Clean, vague malts and strawlike palate. Balanced but boring, save a handful of minor flaws.

Very floral, fruity, citrus aroma with banana, apple, and a dash of malt. Pours with a large white head that leaves in about 2 minutes. No lacing. Very sweet tasting Japanese beer, almost as if it had corn in it (which I doubt is the case). Dry palate with lively carbonation. Nothing to seek out.

A maltier aroma than many pale lagers; underlying hint of hop. Darker gold than the American products. Head didn’t really develop. Substantial mouthfeel. Almost chewy. The grassy hop comes right out with the malt. There’s a light sweetness at the finish, but the hop still makes its presence known. One of the better pale lagers I’ve had.

Bottle. Pale golden beer with a white head. Slight bready aroma. Floral, honey flavor. Finishes clean. Hops make a presence and then lightly fade away. It’s not bad at all, but also nothing outstanding.
