Recently we had the lovely guys from @ampersandbrewco over to brew up High Seas 7.0% Export Porter. This style is based on beers that were designed to travel across oceans, but nowadays also have a big hop twist at the end.
Brewed with crystal, chocolate and black malts for deep coffee and caramel flavours, we boosted the sugar content of this brew with the addition of dark muscavado sugar, lending plum and liquorice tones. With Tradition and Columbus in the boil, we then dry hopped this big hitting porter with more Columbus and Admiral!! Dark, bitter and fruity, this is a perfect beer for seeing out storms in front of the fire. Or down the pub, whichever is easier.
Plus we absolutely love the beautiful galleon artwork by @kev_grey capturing that old skool tattoo feel of billowing sails and crashing waves.

Cask, third pint. @Nottingham Camra Beer Festival, Nottingham (England). 11/10/2024 [#7.897 Global - #983 England - #4 Black Iris] Pours black with a lasting tan head. Aroma: coffeish malts, liquorice and wood barrels. Taste: some bourbon action, coffee beans and liquorice. Plenty of wood and coffee. Great! Next one, please!
