It’s a brisk wind that blows the autumn leaves to the ground and warns us of the imminent arrival of winter. Seeking comfort and familiarity we cultivate a sense of togetherness and warmth.

Our smooth oatmeal stout was brewed long forgotten memories shared and the comfort of being wrapped in a chunky cardigan knitted by your nan.

Using a base of Pils, Cara, Special B, Chocolate and Roast malts before combining with a dose of oats to deliver a smooth body and complex palate. Delicately roasty with flavours of digestive biscuit and dark fruits, supported by a duo of UK hops – Challenger and Bramling Cross, for a balanced finish.

Struggling to accept this is an oatmeal stout, looks like an old ale: dark brown with a small bubbly off-white head. It’s more fruity than malty, and a little thin, without a great deal of roasted-ness going on. Pleasant enough mind

440ml can from Redland Stores, Bristol. Near black in colour, with a frothy, off-white, head. Leafy hops, plain chocolate, dark berries, some pleasantly creamy malts leading to a smooth and slightly toasty finish. Very good.
