Canny Sculler is an easy-drinking, pale session ale brewed with Willamette and Galena leaf hops to provide a refreshing stone fruit/citrus taste with a balanced finish.

Harry Clasper – The Pioneer Canny Sculler

This light session beer (ABV 3.6%) has been brewed in recognition of Harry Clasper, the pioneer sculler of the Tyne, coming to prominence in 1845 when he (at stroke) and four other Claspers won the Champion Fours at the Thames Regatta, in a boat designed and built by Harry himself!

Harry Clasper went on to train ‘honest’ Bob Chambers to become World Champion Sculler in 1859 and also had a big influence as mentor to James Renforth, who became World Champion Sculler in 1868. This ‘golden era’ (from 1845 to 1871) where the Tyne oarsman (including Harry Clasper, Bob Chambers and James Renforth) reigned supreme as World Champion scullers is celebrated with this very Tyneside-style, easy drinking pale session beer
