Grandma’s Boy is a wild ale blend, aged in oak foeders for the better part of a year. Defined by firm acidity, refined brett character, and spritzy carbonation, it’s a beer that balances stone fruit flavour with soft minerality.

This variant conditioned on fresh Vanier Plums from Niagara, imparting floral notes of rose and nectarine.

Poured from 500mL bottle (from 2020). Cloudy yellow with minimal white head and a fair bit of sediment. Plummy, mild acidity, hint of oak. Decent. Seems to be good to sit on these for a while to reduce the acidity.

A hazed blonde ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with Brett, light lactic notes, light funk, pleasant and rich. In mouth, a nice tart mix of ground cherry, lemon pulp, light buttery notes, very nice and complex.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy, opaque golden orange with a large white head. Nose brings out lots of tart, juicy plums, with some gentle oak, and a light wild character. Flavour is bracingly tart, but there is some substance to back it up -- there's lots of juicy tart plums, a touch of oak, light-to-medium astringency. There's a thick, milky palate that fits. Not the most complex or refined beer, but it works very well.

(500ml bottle shared by Herbalist, thanks!) Pours hazy deep gold with a small white head. Notes are lead by an interestingly floral and rounded stone fruit note sitting between plum and peach/nectarine, moderately tart and softly sweet with a lot of dried petals and even subtle spicebox, the fleshy fruit at the core having dashes of orange, nice fruit skin tannins, moderate Brett hay funk, solid oak structure towards the finish, lightly mineral, lingering pit fruit and spicy florals in the finish. Medium bodied and oily with moderate mouth-filling carbonation. Nicest of the variants with a particularly interesting fruit character.

Tasting at Ash's, bottle
Cloudy to murky blond colour. Strong acidity, light funky note, with mild fruit character.
Nothing elegant, but quite good.
