For this year's batch, we kept the recipe quite simple. We created a blend of farmhouse ale aged in oak barrels, then re-fermented the blend with sencha green tea. We sought to capture some of the herbaceous, earthy, floral character of the season in the form of a farmhouse ale. Like all our Dichotomous beers, they are created during the season for which they are named, and often are released well after the season has changed. 2022 Vernal Dichotomous is unfiltered, naturally conditioned, dry, mildly tart, with beautiful fermentation-driven aromatics.

Bottle: Poured a golden color ale with a medium size foamy head with limited retention and light lacing. Aroma of tart notes with light oak presence and some mild funky esther. Taste is mostly dominated by tart notes with mild funky ester and some oak presence. Body is about average with good carbonation. Straightforward with limited depth.

A lightly hazed golden ale with very thin white head. In aroma, nice crisp malt with light Brett, light lactic notes, light cereals, pleasant. In mouth, a nice lightly tart ground cherry, light lactic notes, very nice.

Full tap pour at the source. They were only doing full pours today. Clear, oily, medium gold, active with a shy head. Lemon & an uncertain herbal nose. Carbonic steel fruitiness, lots of wood, lemon, medium acid & pleasant herbalness. Slight tackiness on the tail that starts to get astringent. Sencha is very delicate here but it's really curious. Oaky, gently herbal-floral, slightly soapy finish. Really great.

Tip Tap draught, 11/26/22. Clear golden-blonde. Small, neat, white head. Nice acetic-tinged lactic culture with light cherry and vanilla. Mild oak and buttercream. No green tea that I can find but that's fine with me. Holy vanilla. Vanilla with biscuit, honey, lavender and elderberry. Light lactic, pinch of acetic. Lingering oak tannin and biscuity malt. Weird as shit. Love the texture, body and richness for its size. Soft, succulent and with soft vanilla lingering. I assume this is the green tea but it comes off as dry vanilla to me. Pretty cool stuff, albeit very strange.

On tap at Jester King. Pours a hazy yellow gold with small white head that lasts. The aroma is earth, funk, oak, citrus. Thin body, lemon, tea, funky, oak, light tartness, very nice.
