Humulus Rueuze, our Terreux classic, is a variation on our take on the traditional Belgian-style lambic gueuze with a true Bruery twist: massive amounts of dry hops. This sour blonde aged for upwards of several years in oak barrels before blending barrels together and adding hops for a flavorful, aromatic blend. This is one complex beer, and it’s best consumed fresh.

Bottle. Hazy golden yellow color, white head. Aroma of herbal lemon. Taste is softly sour citrus, edge of spice, lightly tart and acetic finish. Decent.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a clear golden yellow color with a small off white head. The aroma is grassy with hints of herbals and lemon. Leans more toward the herbal side. The flavor is very sour and herbal, cheesy and funky. Nice oily mouthfeel with some lemony sourness. Very herbal with a hint of soap. Hints of acetic acid, but stops short of a burn. Good.

[1/28/16] Draught at Almanac & Friends Sourfest at MaSo at Park Central Hotel in San Francisco. Cloudy golden. Sour oaky aroma with funk, and lots of fruity hops. Dry sour flavor, fruity, with fruity hops and oak. Medium-bodied. Great.

750 ml bottle. Pours a somewhat hazed lighter orange color with a thick, fizzy head and lighter lacing. Aroma is oak, sour, and funk. Some brett and some lacto, sour fruit, bit of cheese. Citrus notes come through as well underneath. Flavor-wise I get mostly the lactic, sour, and oak flavor, pretty nice, but without some of the nuance of the aroma. Slightly over-carbonated for my personal preference, but overall, it still has a solid mouthfeel. I like this one.
