A sceptre is something normally reserved for the likes of royalty, but we all carry a sceptre – something that makes us special. For this India Pale Lager we combine Pilsner, Vienna and Caramalts with a huge whack of hops to make what we call a Special Lager Beer.

Tap@Beavertown Extravaganza 2017, London - pours gold with a white head. Grassy and grainy, lemon, straw, hay, some more grassy and floral nuances throughout, crisp and light on the palate, medium to light in body, bitter hoppy finish.

Bottle at home from Offie & Toffee. A nice pour that lead me to a taste of a pimped up and quite rich pilsner. It was nice, but completely overpriced for what it was. Which is a lager.

Hazy deep golden colour, good frothy white head, half-way lasting, good lacing. Aroma pale malts, peach, orange marmelade, hay. Smooth taste, medium sweet and bitter, malty, grainy, fruity, hoppy. Bittersweet aftertaste, orange peel, spicy notes. Light to medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Smooth and fresh well-hopped lager.

Keg at the Beavertown Extravaganza, day two, 09/09/17. Golden orange with a decent off white cap. Nose is grass, light herb, caramel, light hop, lemon peel. Taste comprises straw, toasted grains, pale malts, light spice, biscuit, lemon rind, hint of orange, Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, semi drying close. Decent lager.

Bottle at home picked up from cotteridge wines. A a light hazed deep golden coloured pour with a lively rocky white head. Aroma is semi sweet cereal grains, orange rind, mellow stone fruit and hints of honey. Flavour is composed of clean crisp semi sweet cereal grains with a little biscuit note. Balanced hop profile, nice delicate orange blossom, peach. Palate is semi sweet, crisp highish carbonation, slight grainy. Really nice.

On tap at Tap Tavern Richmond. A slightly hazy bright amber beer with a mid-sized most good lasting off-white head. Aroma of citrusy bitter hops, flowers. Taste of dry citrusy hops, nutty hops, medium bitterness.

Bottle from Thirsty, Cambridge. Light to mid-gold, hazy with a frothy and quickly dissipating white head. Light floral hops in the aroma with touches of lime peel and hay. Sweet taste, light and unbelievably refreshing. The finish is far drier and there’s an acidity in the aftertaste that takes it down a notch for me. Otherwise it’s an outstanding hot weather beer.
