Bottle from Asda. Medium brown, with a frothy, off-white, head. A sweet, boozy, strong ale with caramel, vanilla oak and some red berries, before a warming finish. A decent enough beer.

500ml bottle from Morrison’s - Deep ruby body with a firm lacing white top. Nose gently smiked, got plenty of cake fruit and prunes, not as bold as expected witb the whisky. Decent mouthful of dark sugar infused with toffee and a boozy dark fruit cocktail. Tastes stronger than its ABV would suggest. A very nice surprise this one.

50cl bottle from Morrisons, Bracknell. A deep amber colour with a loose cream coloured head; rich caramel taste with some vanilla and oak and a touch of whisky; and a dry woody finish. A pleasant heavy ale.

500ml bottle from Asda, Straiton. Pours clear mahogany with a thin off-white head. Aromas of sugar, caramel, vanilla. Taste is sickly-sweet, sticky, heavy on the caramel. No trace of whisky I could find.

Pours dark coppery color, topped with a medium small head, off-white, creamy and quite lasting. Mild malty aroma, biscuity, slightly vegetable like with that whisky boozy feel. Starts sweet, very pleasant woody vanilla feel to it. A touch of warming alcohol and a bit of bitterness in the finish. Medium body. Tastes pretty fine.

500ml bottle. Dark nutty brown with a generous off white head. Sweet vanilla aroma, flavour is sweet with a fair bit of whisky coming through. Rather pleasant and surpassed my expectations

Had my brother-in-law round for a mini tasting on 7th Jan 2017: got out my cheap options: a 500ml bottle of this was the fourth offering: BBD 17 Sep 2017. Good deep amber body, off-white head. Strange one this: weaker than it’s supposedly base beer (Champion is 7.3% ABV) and they claim to have blended it with ’fine whisky’. Maybe the whisky was ’on the rocks’ and all the ice cubes watered down the blend? Anyway my bottle seemed have more chocolate and vanilla notes in the nose and flavour than any whisky. I actually liked it, my sweet tooth coming into play throughout.

Mahogany brown colour. Aroma and flavour are strong with vanilla and toffee. Also some raisin notes. Fairly sweet and rich.

Bottle that Dad shared- cheers! Whisky whisky Nancy whisky, whisky whisky Nancy-O. I’m in a songtastic mood today and this deep amber brew tastes almost entirely of whisky. Or should I say whiskey, because if I had to name a specific brand that it tastes of I’d probably go for Jack Daniels. It’s got that very sweet, syrupy, honeyed caramel and cough mixture flavour to it. Behind all the whiskey there is some evidence of the beer- toffee malts and a light dry woodiness- but it’s very definitely all about the whiskey. The sweetness didn’t go with the ridiculously early Christmas dinner we were enjoying, the beer made an excellent companion for the Christmas pud that followed. It’s not a great beer by any means- it’s unbalanced and one dimensional, and if you don’t like whiskey you’re going to hate it. Fortunately I like whiskey (and whisky!) and enjoyed this more than it probably deserved. Which takes me back to the singing: I am going, I am going where streams of whisky are flowing...
