Old rating - A 500ml bottle from Scotland that my wife brought me home, brewed in England it seems. It pours dark brown with a beige head. Aromas & tastes of caramel, toffee, whisky & malt. Mild bitter finish. Decent wee heavy.

500ml bottle. Aroma of malt, caramel, dark fruit and a slight hint of whisky. Pours a very dark amber. Taste of malt, sweet toffee, biscuit and again a hint of whisky. A very mild bitterness. Low to medium carbonation. This is my first scotch beer and I was worried about the whisky combination but actually this incantation is very subtle. If anything it’s a little too subtle as although its well balanced I wished for more flavour. Nonetheless a decent brew.

There is a strong earthy/ peaty aroma on opening the bottle. Pours a brownish shade of red with a strong off-white head and high carbonation. In the mouth there is an initial sweet frruityness which gives way to more peaty resonance with malts and biscuits in the background. Sweetness lingers at the finish as well. A bit strange, but I rather like it.

0.5 l bottle from Vrutak, Zagreb. Shared with little Dina. Deep darker amber, small creamy off-white to beige head. Aroma is lightly caramely, hints of red fruit, light wood or barrel, something syrupy, brown sugar, very light peat, very light dried fruit. Carbonation a bit high, fruitiness emphasized. Sugary, candy-like with a touch of dried fruit. Strawberry cake, notes of biscuit, cocoa and berries. There seem to be a scotch touch in the back. Slightly sweet. Light finish with a hint of hoppy bitterness. Quite smooth. Not a bad beer, although you won't get exactly what it says on the label.

Bottle, 0.5l. Deep amber pour, one finger frothy off-white head. Short lasting, good lacing on the glass. Very nice on the nose, nutty, malty, caramel, wood notes, whisky. Nice. Medium body, soft carbonation. Soft mouthfeel and texture, smooth, chewy, goes down quite nicely. Sweet taste with subtle bitter touches here and there, mostly in the aftertaste. Pleasant aroma, malty, toasted caramel, candy, toffee, bready notes, grains. Woody notes, nutty, lingering whisky in the background, warming, slightly dry. Nicely balanced. Medium to long lasting finish. Quite a pleasant surprise. Tasty brew, one to go back to.
