A balanced, bold barleywine aged in a mix of bourbon, rye, and port barrels for over two years, Timbre pours a deep brown color with a wispy head. Dark fruit, dried apricots and port barrel shavings immediately engage the senses. Bourbon-soaked plums, sweet sherry and burnt brown sugar emerge as the beer warms. A subtle alcohol warming is present in the finish.

Bottle at CBJ Tasting. Aroma is boozy and malty and dark dough. No head. Opaque Light-medium brown. Flavourwise it has a boozy tang with spice over treacle. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation . Long dry somewhat astringent finish.

Bottleshare at CBJ. Thanks to LKS. Near clear deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, a little soft, modest fine carbonation. Soft caramel malts, a little dark toffee. Soft but rich bourbon tempered by mild port barrel berry fruits. Some okay vanilla on the light and mildly spicy finish..

Fascinating. Blind, I would have said BA doppelbock. Floral, nitty character, a bit light and clean in the mouthfeel with plenty of barrel slight vinous notes. Dried fruit, pumpernickel. Need to sit with this one.

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with no retention. Dark pit fruit, port and brown sugar aromas. Thick with sweet molasses, chocolate covered pit fruit, hot caramel and upfront turning to a lasting warm brown sugar finish.

Leggy, clear caramel amber sample pour at Churchkey. Ring of off white head. Big nose, more old port than bourbon, sherry too, big malt and caramel. Flavor is cherry cordial, more sherry than anything now, raisins and caramel, plenty of barrel. Full bodied, long, enveloping finish.

500mL bottle drunk 6/18/24. Clear dark mahogany. Small beige head. Nose is luscious barrel with the port leading the way and the rye not far behind. Mellow chocolate and caramel from the malt with no alcohol noted. In the mouth the port sweetness is rich and fruity with layers of raisins atop chocolate-caramel and light vanilla. The bourbon and rye help dry things out but the beer is well-attenuated on the finish. Barreling has mellowed out the beer nicely and there is no aggressive character.
