500ml can from Mikkeller Beer Club. Pours pitch black with a thick foamy light brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, loads of coffee, creamy lactic notes, hints of milk chocolate and vanilla. Taste is smooth, sweetish and slightly lactic with loads of coffee, vanilla, milk chocolate and creamy notes. Finish is creamy, slick and smooth with some lactic notes, loads of roastiness, coffee and chocolate. A bit too much milky and lactic notes here, the regular one was better.

(500ml can from Mikkeller Webshop) Black pour with a huge head of medium tan froth and big rings of lace. Aroma is super-roasty in the acidic roast malt way, substantial earthy coffee too, bit of lactose, burnt sugar, cocoa, slight umami. Flavour is pretty sweet, mix of dark malt, sweetened coffee, cream, acidic roast, coffee grounds, earth, touch of dates, smoke, herbal notes, moderately bitter, rather dry into the finish with all that coffee, herbal and earthy notes and roast in the aftertaste. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. I like balls-out coffee beers but that acidic roast doesn't really do it justice, whether malt or coffee chosen, it's not quite my style. Good but not amazing, and not head and shoulders above the normal one.

Can. A next to black one, with a dense finger-thick dark beige head. Sexy lacing. The aroma has lots of coffee, like an espresso, with roasted malts, cocoa and some roasted malts. It's full-bodied, smooth and with a nice carbonation. Roasted malts, lots of coffee and with a touch of nuts and quite a lot of cocoa. Lasting cocoa and chocolate finish with coffee and a faint fruityness. Delicious indeed. 180127

500 ml can into snifter, best before 8/17/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with amazing retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roasted coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of smoke, char, raisin, cherry, herbal, wood, pepper, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, lactose, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roasted coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of smoke, char, raisin, cherry, herbal, wood, pepper, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light pine/herbal/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roasted coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, toasted oats, dark/brown bread, light smoke/char, herbal, wood, pepper, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, lactose, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with an awesome hop/roast bitter/sweet balance; and zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 7.5%. Overall this is a fantastic coffee oatmeal stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, lactose, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Much less bitter, drying, acrid, and astringent than most of the De Proef brewed Mikkeller stouts I have had. Amazingly rich and well rounded malt complexity; balanced fruity/nutty coffee, and mellow earthy hop presence. Outstanding mouthfeel from the oats and lactose. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Very expensive can, but was well worth it to at least try once.
