Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours “bitter brown” with a small scummy off-white head and good lacing. Malts to the fore in the aroma alongside caramel, herbs and some hoppy hints. In the mouth it is quite bitter, smooth and with a creamy texture. Flavour has malts, hops, dried fruit and toffee, with hints of spice and ginger coming later. Bitterness lasts into the dry finish. This is a decent bitter with a spicy twist.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Covent Garden, London, 21 Nov 2024) Amber colour with foamy, tan head. Malty nose with nuts, caramel and dark bread. Malty taste with notes of caramel, dark bread, dried fruit, nuts and a gentle earthy bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Refreshing and well balanced bitter. Nice one.

Cask at CBC, Covent Garden on 23rd November 2024. Copper with shallow foam and spot lacing. Sweet malty aroma. Nutty malts and mild spices in-mouth and a soft, agreeable malty finish. Smooth mouthfeel and a fair amount of body.

Cask at The Star & Garter, Bromley. Copper coloured pour with a beige head. Nose is toffee, orchard fruits. Same in the taste. Could be a younger brother of Fuller's ESB, drinks just as well too. Malty sweet, lightly bitter finish. Good stuff.

Cask handpull at Nelson Arms Tonbridge Clear Mid brown colour lasting off white head. Earthy bitter. Some sweet malt. An old style bitter. Earthy. Hedgerow. Some sweet caramel flavour. Some dryness on the finish. Shame about the aroma of white spirit from the kitchen. Decent bitter with enough character to be interesting
