"Need a Hug" is an Appalachian Wild Ale brewed w/ local barley & local raw wheat, boiled w/ burlap-aged hops. Fermented w/ our mixed house cultured in stainless steel. Transferred into oak for 4-6 months of aging. Transferred out onto a massive amount of local blueberries in June 2018. Fermented & aged on berries for 3-4 months & transferred into red wine barrels. We did this part a little differently this year. Opposed to adding all of the elderberries into the blueberry tank, we did a separate fermentation with only our barrel-aged sour base and the elderberries. This allowed a greater ability to blend to our desired outcome. Each beer matured in the wine barrels for an additional 6 months.

Bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo. Thanks Aaron! Pours a reddish purple color with a finger of rose-colored foam that lingers. Aromas of currants, hay, blueberry and wild strawberry. Berry acidity on the palate, with some mineral-like notes...maybe some limestone, faint earth. Dry on the finish with lingering tannic blueberry skin and seed. Draft at Salud. Reddish golden pinkish sort of color. Redcurrant and berry aroma. Taste is tart tart berries bone dry finish. Tasty.

(Tap sample @ MBCC 2017 Red Session, Copenhagen) Pours hazy deep red with a small white head. Notes of tart red berries, elderberry and blueberry but also other forest berries, flowers, soft citrus, wet barnyard light sweet malt, oak, overall balance is sourish with some juicy sweetness and tannic drydown, finish is dusty and a hint mineral with persisting berries and funk, lightly yeasty. Light to medium bodied, maybe a little thin, soft carbonation. Very nice stuff, big berry character and well-balanced, this is a step up from other Fonta Flora I've tried and I hope to see more inspired brews like this from them.

Draught @ MBCC '17 [ Red Session ]. - Mikkeller Beer Copenhagen Celebration 2017, Øksnehallen, Halmtorvet 11, 1700 København V, Danmark. [ As Fonta Flora Need a Hug ].Unclear medium red colour with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, tart, fruity - berry, elderberry - blueberry, funk. Flavor is moderate sweet and light acidic with a long duration, tart, dry, fruity - berry, elderberry - blueberry, funk. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. From tap at MBCC 17. Red color with off white head. Yeasty and malty aroma, funky, sweet and and tart fruity, berries, wood. Sweet and acidic taste. Light to medium thin to oily body with soft carbonation.

Draught @ Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2017 - Red Session
Pours hazy red with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, tart, funk and berries. Taste is light sweet and medium sour with a long dry, tart and berry finish. Body is light, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Tap@MBCC May 2017, Copenhagen - dark red coloured pour with pinkish white head. Medium sour berry fruity notes, with some nice blueberry and elderberry action, wooden oak blueberry washed notes, medium acidic and body, tart berry fruity finish.
