Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a jet black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a mild pace. Stringy lace.
The aroma had a robust dark roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate nibs, baker’s chocolate, sweet grains and a light earthiness.
The flavor leaned towards the robust roasty content at first with just a touch of sweetness at the end. Super low amount of bitterness. Aftertaste and finish were the same.
The feel was about medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Healthy ABV with good carbonation. Roastiness doesn’t impart rigid harshness as I thought it would. I mean, well, there’s some, but not distracting nor was this smooth.
Overall, well, damn, that’s a really nice sturdy yet simple porter!

Had this at the 2/20/16 Pittsburgh RB Gathering @ Insurrection in Heidelberg. Big thanks to my fellow ratebeerians! Big and black. Nice attractive roasty smelling beer. No head. I was expecting something kick ass for near 7% but this comes across as a gentleman from the start. The deScription of "robust American coffee porter conditioned on queen city harrar from Allegheny coffee & tea exchange in the strip" made me think it would be bitter black, but its not real bitter, just dark & roasty on the palate. Good example of a very acceptable coffee beer that us not in yer face, does not have that burnt black coffee impact. Yes, coffee is not the backbone in this brew, its more of an old damp partially burned piece of campfire wood. Nice job!

Sampled on draft this beer poured a black color with a small foamy beige head that faded and left minimal lacing. The aroma was roasty, woody and had hints of smoke and dark fruits. The flavor was bitter, dryish and roasty with hints of dark fruit, coffee and smoke. Long finish. Medium body. Ok.
