Belgian Quadrupel

Decadent notes of plum, dried fruit and spice are complemented by a subtle and smooth warming alcohol sensation. Medium bodied and well balanced with just a hint of sweetness. A classic Quadruple that is indulgent and satisfying.

Can from CCC October 2023 box. Hazy dark copper with a one finger beige head that fades quickly leaving minimal lace. Nose is dark candied fruit, light caramel, roasted nuts, pepper, cloves and some leather. Medium+ candy sweetness with some spice through the finish. Mouth is just medium slick with soft carbonation and a very boozy finish. 7/3/6/3-/12

On tap at Container, pours a somewhat hazy dark chestnut amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts, dark fruits, and light esters — doesn't smell like an authentic quad, just a fruity, estery strong ale. Flavour matches, with lots of dark fruits, plenty of alcohol — some fusel, perfumey notes, and estery notes. Inauthentic, and suffers from similar issues that most North American Belgian ales suffer from: too estery, not carbonated enough, basically improper usage of the yeast. It's okay, but quite off-target.

Poured from the tap. Clear amber with small off white head. Caramel malt, candi sugar, very subtle Belgian spices, lacks depth, but it’s decent, surprisingly okay from Container.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dark amber colour, clear, bright, poured in a way to have a large, off-white, compact head, it seems quite persistent too. Mild aroma of fennel and caramel, or maybe it's candi sugar. Lean mouthfeel, soft, smooth; it's moderately sweet, the alcohol is a bit too much evident; there is some malt and caramel in the flavour profile, and some Belgian yeast, injecting a hint fennel and celery, and mild fruity esters; the malt becomes more apparent as it warms; hints of chocolate in the finish.
No flaws, and pretty darn tasty.
