On tap. Pours a near clear gold with an off-white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of spice with clove, light pepper and a hint of nutmeg backed by a light floral note. Flavor has more sweet grains and light fruits coming through with backing spice.

Draft at Sugar Maple. Filtered orange-tan. Steady lacing, off-white head. Mellow aroma, some funky spearmint, tropical fruit. Some orange-candy flavors up front, very clean on the palate. Very true to style, lots of the funky yeast tones shine. Zesty, though somewhat mellowed carbonation. Not quite World Class, but very true to style and well crafted. Peppery hop tones. A touch sugary and big for the ABV. Sweet, almost a touch of corn in the finish. OK.

Big Hunt, DC goblet ($8): Pours a darkish color for a saison with a creamy like head, but maybe that was because it was all draft-like. Smells a bit saisonish. I would have thought this would have been classified as a BA if I had smelled it right off. Basically, you got your yeast and your fruitiness. Taste is pretty much up the same alley. Kind of boring straight up saison/BPA. maybe I eat too much white pepper to notice it. In any case happy Belgian Independence day.

On draught at Bodega. This beer is a hazy golden color with a medium thick fluffy white head that burns away slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of fruit, yeast and grassy hops. Light body with a sweet spiced character and notes of yeast, fruit and hops. The finish is fruity with a bit of bubblegum left behind. Above average overall.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark golden amber color with a large foamy white head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was tart, dry and citric with undertones of pepper and dust. The flavor was tart lemon, pepper and must. The finish was long and dry with lingering citrus and pepper. Medium body. Decent.

Draft at Bavarian Lodge. Should this be combined with the other Belgian Independence Day 2011? I think I’m rating it here, based on the description and alcohol content. Hey, served in a commemorative Independence Day tulip from Moortgat. Cloudy gold in tulip. Stiff egg-white foam. Light spicy nose with clove only slightly dominating. Belgian pale malts are nice, or should I mean ni-i-i-i-ce! I might be demeaning it by calling it a "standard" saison taste. But then the spicy note gets stronger, and some bitterness from either hops or a warm farmhouse ferment. The filigrees are all there just to point out the solid golden Belgian malts.Almost like a toffee chew, and very good.

On tap. Pours with a hazy golden body and a large, fluffy white head with good retention and lacing. Very spicy aroma, coriander, phenol, light tobacco, lemon, cumin and rubber cement. Flavors are a bit smoother, still a lot of phenols, lemon zest, malty/grainy, pepper, spices. Creamy mouthfeel, medium bubbles.
