The rum edition of this massive Danish 'imperial milk stout', aged on wood chips that were soaked in rum. Bottle from Gedeelde Vreugde in Sint-Niklaas. Irregularly lacing, moussy, pale greyish beige head which is surprisingly stable for such a strong beer; black robe with chestnut brown, hazy edge, only visible for about a millimeter off the edge. Aroma of beef stock cubes (quite dominant), bitter chocolate, sweet brown rum indeed but also brown sugar and treacle, coffee cream, vague oaky touch and some background vanilla, melting caramel candy, toasted brown bread, hints of black cherries, almond, candied banana, ruby port, bayleaf. Very sweet onset, candied cherries and raisins paired with a softly sourish blackberry juice-like touch as well as that beef stock-like umami flavour that is already so obvious in the nose; sweetness, however, is the dominant factor here (as in the basic version), to the point of becoming syrupy. Soft carbonation, evidently hugely thick, massive, viscous, 'greasy' mouthfeel. Thick layers of nutty, toffeeish and chocolatey malts are unfolded, all drenched in this creamy lactose sweetness, connecting with quite pronounced rum aspects in the finish - which are unsurprisingly highlighted by the high amount of alcohol, producing a lot of 'afterwarmth', but not exaggeratedly so - though some people will certainly find 15% ABV over the top for even an imperial stout. Faint woody notes (vanilla-ish), varnish-like solvents and coffeeish roasted bitterness further fill this long, heating, sweet, thick finish. Decadent for sure, but the rum factor does fit in well here. One for the stoutheads who do not mind a big amount of sweetness and booziness.
